Hwy. 33 in B.C. closed in both directions due to debris

Highway 33 in B.C.’s Southern Interior has been shut down in both directions due to a washout.

The closure is between Three Forks Road and Philpott Road, about eight kilometres east of Kelowna, and spans a stretch of 2.7 kilometres.

According to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, the washout happened Tuesday night, and that geotechnical staff were called in early Wednesday morning to assess the site and provide repair recommendations.

The ministry said the geotechnical assessment is complete, and that repair work is underway.

However, the ministry anticipates the highway will remain closed for several days while repairs are completed.
