TORONTO – The third tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season has formed off the coast of South America.

A tropical storm warning has been issued for Barbados, Dominica, and Saint Lucia. A tropical storm watch has been issued for Saint Vincent.

Chantal is moving west at 43 km/h and is expected to continue westward or west-northwestard for the next couple of days.

The storm’s maximum sustained winds are near 65 km/h with higher gusts, but some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.
