Rider fan designs watermelon bra

It is no secret Saskatchewan Roughrider will snap up anything green and white with a Rider logo on it – and now a Saskatoon man is hoping fans will wear his creation.

Ed Onishenko designed a Rider watermelon bra which he is selling for a few days at the Northgate Mall. He got the idea from his daughter’s sister-in-law.

“She made her own melon bras in the stands and wore them, so we took the idea and decided to pursue it,” Onishenko said.

Onishenko got the idea a year ago, and said it was just ironic that Calgary Stampeder quarterback Henry Burris was recently photographed at a party wearing a bra.

“Thank you to Henry Burris,” Onishenko said. “The timing couldn’t be better.”

The Riders face the Stamps on October 17 in a battle between the top two teams in the western division. Onishenko hopes Rider fans embrace his watermelon bras and wear them to the game.

“I hope all Rider fans will buy these bras and just have fun with it,” he said.

So far the response has been good in both Saskatoon and Regina. Now, he plans to meet with the Riders’ marketing director Steve Mazurak to hopefully market the bras in connection with the organization.

One dollar from every watermelon bra sold goes towards breast cancer awareness.
