North Shore Rescue was called in to rescue a missing hiker who spent the night on Burke Mountain in Coquitlam Saturday.
“NSR helicopter rescue team is en route to rescue a stranded hiker near Munro Lake. The hiker is unhurt, but stranded in a drainage above a waterfall,” NSR said on Facebook.
Yashar Keramati, 27, set off for Monro Lake on the Goat Trail from his parents house at around 4:30 p.m.
His family reported him missing at 10 p.m. after he failed to return. They said the South African man must have become disoriented in the heavily wooded and rugged terrain because he doesn’t know the area well.

Keramati did not bring anything with him when he left and was wearing shorts, a t-shirt and running shoes.
Rescue crews conducted an extensive ground and air search before finding him Sunday morning perched on a precipice.
The incident comes a day after Coquitlam Search and Rescue told Global BC that bureaucratic red tape is stopping crews from performing long line rescues themselves.
Coquitlam Search and Rescue manager Al Hurley said long line equipment is essential to rescues, but their team is awaiting re-certification from Transport Canada.
The team has the equipment and the certified team members, but they can’t use the equipment yet. If they need to rescue someone, like Keramati, by long line they have to call in NSR.
NSR is one of the seven teams that received extensions for re-certification.
