Mother killed and daughter injured in horseback riding accident in Ladner

A mother has died and her daughter injured in a horseback riding incident in Ladner Wednesday night.

It happened on a trail near 34th Street and 34th Avenue.

Delta Police say the 43-year-old mother and her 18-year-old daughter had been riding their horses when the mother’s horse suddenly was spooked by a dog and galloped away, throwing the mother off the horse. The daughter’s horse immediately followed the other horse and while attempting to jump a ditch, threw the young teenager off.

Before ambulances arrived, residents in the area immediately began CPR on the mother. She was taken to Vancouver General Hospital where she later died of her injuries. Her daughter was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for scrapes to her face and bruising to her left leg.

Currently police have not released the names of victims.
