The crash occurred just before 2 p.m. after a vehicle flipped and crashed through JC Computers at the Brookdale Plaza on Chemong Road in the city’s north end. The window of Play Cafe next door was also damaged, however, the business was closed at the time.

Witness Jamie McIntosh tells Global News Peterborough he used a knife to help free the unconscious driver from the vehicle – the lone occupant.

“Me and my dad were driving and he just came upside right over the back of our car,” said McIntosh. “So I slammed on the brakes. When I got to the car there was smoke everywhere. I yelled out for a knife and a lady at Mr. Sub (next door) brought me a knife and I cut him loose.”

McIntosh says the victim was too heavy for him to move. A volunteer firefighter quickly arrived to help, he said.

“He grabbed his torso and I grabbed his legs and he started doing chest compressions making sure he kept breathing until the ambulance got here,” said McIntosh.

McIntosh says the moment was “like a scene in a movie.”

“I just looked in my rear-view mirror and saw an upside down car flying through the mirror,” he said.

Emergency responders say the driver and a person inside the business were both taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Their injuries are not yet known.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Police have closed Chemong Road from Highland Road to Wolsely Street

More to come.
