Web Writer/Producer
The Shaw Media, Global news team based in Calgary is currently seeking a News Producer for on-line content their News Department. This position reports directly into News Director.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
“¢ Initiate, develop and implement market leading on-line editorial content
“¢ Work with the news producers, anchors, reporters, and the assignment desk to create and coordinate on-air and online news coverage
“¢ Present on-air and promotion of on-line content
“¢ Post breaking news content, including video
“¢ Monitoring and tracking progress of ongoing story assignments
“¢ Site troubleshooting and overall maintenance of the high editorial standards.
“¢ Monitor news feeds/wire services and write news copy, newsbreaks and news updates.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a proven online journalist. He/she will work in an extremely competitive news market with a motivated team. Applicants will have a University Degree or equivalent post-secondary education in Journalism/Broadcasting. A minimum of 3 years experience in a television newsroom is required.
“¢ You are a proven self-starter with the ability to initiate and create innovative on-line content
“¢ Own a powerful on-air presentation, able to report live within a newscast
“¢ Possess strong news judgment, editorial and writing skills
“¢ Superior computer skills, including editing and encoding and have a working understanding of DHTML, CSS and Java scripts
“¢ Must have excellent communication and people skills
“¢ Able to work within tight deadlines
“¢ Previous experience producing in a news environment would be considered a strong asset.
