HIGH RIVER, Ab – As the Town of High River continues to recover from devastating flood damage, more evacuees were able to return to their homes on Monday.
Business owners in the commercial district at the centre of town, moving east towards Highway 2, were allowed to return at 8:00 a.m.
Business owners were given information on the status and condition of their business when they returned, while residents who live in southwest High River were able to assess damage to their homes.
Residents who were able to return home live in the following neighbourhoods:
- Beachwood Estates
- McLaughlin Meadows
- Old Rodeo Grounds
- Downtown
- The Golf Course
All homes in the area have been colour-coded as follows:
- Green: habitable
- Yellow: minor impact, requires clean up, possible repairs, remains habitable
- Orange: damaged, requires extensive repairs or renovations, not immediately habitable, residents enter at their own risk
- Red: severely damaged, uninhabitable, dangerous, residents enter at their own risk

The town says residents who live in the centre of High River will be allowed back on Wednesday at noon.
The Welcome Centre at the Rodeo Grounds will continue to be the location for all residents to gain access to the community.
Officials do not have a timeline for when those who live in the east end of High River will be able to return home.
Authorities continue to pump about 40,000 of water gallons per minute from that area.
The provincial state of emergency remains in place for High River. A boil water advisory also remains in place.
