Just before 11:30 a.m., on Tuesday, police said officers had arrested one man in connection with an armed robbery following a manhunt in the Mabel Lake area east of Enderby.
Earlier in the daypolice asked residents to lock their doors and the public to stay away from the area, as the police search continued.
Police said the manhunt and arrest were connected with an early morning armed robbery at a licensed medical marijuana grow operation in the Sicamous area by “suspects armed with firearms.”
RCMP said shots were allegedly fired at someone representing the marijuana facility during the robbery, but that the person was not hurt.
Police originally said officers were looking for two suspects.
Police have not clarified whether officers are still looking for a second suspect, but said “there is no further risk to the public stemming from this incident.”
RCMP said the Southeast District Emergency Response Team was involved with the manhunt due to the large area involved, and because police believed it was a “high risk situation potentially involving firearms.”
RCMP said the manhunt began when a vehicle connected with the suspects was spotted by officers early Tuesday morning, driving east on Mabel Lake Road in Enderby.
According to police, the vehicle was later found abandoned near Mabel Lake.
RCMP said, Tuesday morning, officers had set up a perimeter in the Kingfisher area.
People who live and work in the area reported a large police presence and checkpoints.
RCMP were urging anyone in the area who saw something suspicious to contact police “immediately.”
