KELOWNA – Every Thursday for the past 28 years Okanagan country dancing fans have been practicing their fancy footwork at the OK Corral CountryBar in Kelowna.
Tanya Chartrand has been coming to the line dancing lessons for the past 2 and a half years and has developed a sense of community within the group, “I don’t think anybody is not represented here. We have all ages, all cultural backgrounds and genders, everybody from 19 to early 80s.”

But now the enthusiastic boot skooters need a new place to kick up their heels.
Due to a change in business plans, the Corral can no longer accommodate the weekly line dancing lessons.
“It’s going to be really tough for us to part company and I’m hoping that with the way this is we can find a venue and stay together and dance somewhere.” Says Celeste Sali who has been teaching the line dancing class for the past 12 years, “We don’t need a lot. We need a dance floor big enough for 40 people so that the important thing.”
There are some other consideration for the group like hardwood floor instead of carpet or concrete and a venue that can work within their small budget.
But, for the most part, this tight knit group of stompers just want a place to strut their steps.
“There’s no way that we’re going to stop dancing,” says Chartrand, “We’ll find a place hopefully someone will step up.”
