27-year-old man charged with second-degree murder in connection with deadly Calgary shooting

Calgary police have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection to a deadly shooting in the community of Pineridge on March 30.

Officers were called to the 5700 block of 18 Avenue Northeast at around 1 a.m. after multiple people reported hearing gunshots.

According to police, emergency crews arrived to find one man in medical distress who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said another person was also shot during the incident, but did not provide information on that victim’s condition or name.

Following an autopsy on Wednesday, police identified the homicide victim as 39-year-old Aaron Elliot Castle.

On May 25, police said Lyle Robert Walter Vance was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder in relation to Caslte’s death. He’s also facing a charge of attempted murder in relation to the shooting of the second person. 

Vance is set to appear in court on June 22.

This incident is not believed to be gang related, according to police.
