REGINA – Saskatchewan is warning the cities of North Battleford and Prince Albert to get ready for higher water flows from the North Saskatchewan River as water from flood-ravaged Alberta heads east.
Water Security Agency spokesman Patrick Boyle says water should rise today in North Battleford and peak sometime Wednesday, while Prince Albert will see water rising later tonight or early Wednesday, peaking on Thursday.
Boyle adds the agency is getting a lot of calls from people asking about the levels of lakes in the Qu’Appelle River system.
He says the water flowing from Alberta does not make its way into the Qu’Appelle system.
Meanwhile, the community of Cumberland House, about 440 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon, looks like a ghost town as most of its 2,200 residents have been evacuated ahead of flood waters.
Duane McKay, Saskatchewan’s commissioner of emergency management, says the only people left in Cumberland House are those needed to ensure things are operating as smoothly as possible.
