Saskatchewan election: The Battlefords

Jeremy Cockrill of the Saskatchewan Party is elected in The Battlefords.

Summary

Voters in The Battlefords will elect a first-time MLA after the retirement of two-term Saskatchewan Party candidate Herb Cox.

Boundaries

As its name indicates, the riding includes all of Battleford and North Battleford, along with a small amount of rural area to North Battleford’s northeast.

Last Election

Cox defeated the Saskatchewan NDP’s Rob Feist by around 2,000 votes. Turnout in the riding was just shy of 53 per cent.

History

Ridings that have included Battleford and North Battleford have elected Liberal, NDP, Saskatchewan Party and Progressive Conservative candidates over the years, but have generally favoured the NDP.

Grew up in the Battlefords

Is a trained social worker and advocate. Previously, she’s worked for the Battle River Treaty Six Health Centre as a counsellor and as a probation officer for the Ministry of Justice.

Currently, she leads the Battlefords & Area Sexual Assault Centre as their executive director.

Earned a social work degree from the University of Regina.

Has been a volunteer leader for half a dozen sports events and non-profits.

 

Saskatchewan Party: JEREMY COCKRILL

Currently involved in the management of a family business in North Battleford.

He previously worked in the agriculture and agrifood sectors in British Columbia.

He is an active member of the community and spends much of his time coaching basketball at a local high school.
