Shelter’s call for warm clothing donations for city’s homeless answered

It has been a brutally cold week in Winnipeg, dangerously cold for those who call the streets their home.

Siloam Mission put out a desperate call for help Tuesday and now a local business has answered in a big way.

Cunningham Business Interiors is donating 900 jackets to the Mission, that’s one of the largest jacket donations its ever received.

“We heard on the news that Siloam was looking for donations of warm clothes to meet the needs of their guests,” says Bob Cunningham, in a news release Thursday.

“If these jackets can help someone dealing with the hardships of life on the streets, then that’s a helping hand we’re happy to extend!”

The shelter is facing a growing a need, up 30 per cent from last year. Volunteers have been handing out more sweaters, jackets, toques, and warm clothing this year.

The Cunninghams plan to hand deliver the jackets Friday morning.
