The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) of Canada has sent a team of investigators to the site of a fatal crash involving a twin engine Cessna aircraft near Crawford Bay in the Kootenays.
TSB official Bill Yearwood says the plane was located in the hills near Crawford Bay, about 50 kilometres northeast of Nelson after a brief search on Wednesday night.
He says the pilot, who was alone in the twin-engine plane, died at the scene.
The man, who’s name has not been released, had taken off from Nelson at about 1 p.m.
He was intending to make the six hour flight to La Ronge, Sask., but was reported overdue several hours after takeoff.
Yearwood says TSB investigators are travelling to the site and more information could be released later.
