Police respond to barricaded person call in Dartmouth

There was a large police presence in Dartmouth Saturday afternoon when a man barricaded himself in an apartment on Rolieka Drive.

Police were at the apartment to arrest a man on an outstanding warrant.

Police say the man made threats toward police and stated he was armed with a knife.

The apartment was contained and attempts were made to talk with the man.

Police were on scene all afternoon as negotiations continued.  At times the man could be heard screaming through his window at the officers outside.

Just after 5 p.m., the suspect lit a fire inside the apartment and fire crews were called to the scene.

First responders entered the apartment, arrested the man and extinguished the fire.

On Tuesday, police provided an update on the incident via e-mail stating that 30-year-old Kyle Tyson Clayton of Dartmouth has been scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provinical court on Nov. 18 to face charges of resisting a police officer, uttering threats to cause death, failing to attend court and arson.
