One person was killed in a crash between a semi-truck and a car at the intersection of highways 13 and 20 near Winfield, Alta., on Tuesday, according to Alberta EMS and RCMP.
Paramedics were called to the collision at about 10:58 a.m. and EMS said a man, who RCMP said was the lone occupant of a car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another man was assessed by paramedics but not taken to hospital, EMS said.
RCMP said the semi driver did not suffer injuries.
Traffic detours
Drivers were being rerouted along Highway 20 as of 12:25 p.m. after what RCMP called a “serious two-vehicle crash” that saw a semi-truck roll over.
Both north and southbound traffic was being rerouted through the nearby town of Winfield as of 12:15 p.m. Traffic along Highway 13 was still moving normally.
RCMP said at around 4 p.m. that they had cleared the scene.
Police said the crash is under investigation, but preliminary results suggest that icy roads were a factor.
Winfield is about 122 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.
