A blanket of snow left roads and highways in and around Saskatoon a slippery mess on Monday morning.
Saskatoon police said they responded to 17 collisions between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
One collision resulted in a man being taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The City of Saskatoon announced on Monday afternoon it declared a snow event after six centimetres fell since Sunday afternoon as well as the potential for more overnight.
Snow events mean contract graders will be called in to assist with clearing all priority streets within the next 72 hours, according to city officials.
City officials said crews have already cleared 22nd Street, Idylwyld Drive, College Drive and 8th Street, and are making progress on Circle Drive and other expressways.
Overpasses, bridges, busy intersections, and icy sections of road as also being sanded and salted.
Saskatoon RCMP said there were restrictions on Highway 11 south of the city due to icy road conditions.
A number of tractor-trailer units became stuck at the valley between Dundurn and Hanley, police said.
Both southbound and northbound lanes were affected and police said traffic was moving slowly in the area.

Drivers are being urged by police and city officials to slow down, use caution and allow extra time for the morning commute when winter conditions exist. They added watching for blue and amber flashing lights that signal winter maintenance equipment is ahead.
