Montreal police are going door to door in the city’s north end to speak to residents after gunfire left a 23-year-old man dead and three people injured late Thursday night.
Véronique Comtois, a spokesperson for the police force, said the body of the man was discovered in an alley behind Lapierre Street in Montreal North. The victim has not been identified but paramedics confirmed his death at the scene.
Police say three other men — who are 17, 26 and 42 — were shot and wounded earlier in the evening around 9:25 p.m. in the same area. The shooting occurred near the intersection of Pierre Street and Matte Avenue.

They were taken to hospital, where they are expected to recover.
“We do not fear for their lives,” said Comtois.
Comtois confirmed police are treating the homicide and the other shooting as related events. She said some of the people involved are known to police.
Investigators remain at the scene Friday morning. Police officers are meeting with potential witnesses and trying to recover surveillance footage as part of their investigation.

Police officers are also going door to door to reassure residents and to gather any information about the violent night, added Comtois.
“A visibility plan is being put in place,” she said. “There will be increased police presence in the area.”
A large security perimeter has been erected and the public is being asked to avoid the area.
