UPDATE: Power restored to majority of southeast Edmonton residents

Edmonton – Epcor crews have restored power to the majority customers in southeast Edmonton following a Thursday morning outage.

Power was knocked out after a vehicle hit a piece of Epcor equipment in the Knottwood area at 4:40 Thursday morning.

The Edmonton Police Service says the driver of the car fell asleep at the wheel.

He’s been charged with one count of careless driving.

Police say alcohol was not a factor.

The outage affected areas from 10 Avenue to 23 Avenue, and 66 Street to 89 Street, which includes the neighbourhoods of Satoo, Ekota, and Mernisa.

The crash happened in the Knottwood area at 4:40 a.m.

On Thursday morning, crews were still working on bringing back power to 53 customers.
