Miramichi Fire Department Chief Tony Lloyd said on Tuesday that firefighters responded to the Miramichi Lumber Products facility on Jane Street at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Monday to find the building “fully involved.”

The facility began to operated on a limited capacity in 2013 before an electric fire forced it to close permanently two years later.

Lloyd said on Tuesday that all three fire stations — roughly 35 to 40 firefighters in total — were deployed to battle the blaze.

Fire departments from surrounding areas came to provide assistance on other calls.

“We’re appreciative of that,” said Lloyd, adding that it took four hours before the blaze was fully contained.
