PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Academy Award-winning actor and director Ben Affleck has received an honourary doctorate degree from Brown University.
Affleck was among artists, writers, scientists and educators to receive the degrees from the Ivy League school at commencement exercises Sunday. He received a doctor of fine arts degree. The Massachusetts native directed, produced and starred in Argo, which won this year’s Oscar for Best Picture.

Affleck studied Middle Eastern affairs at the University of Vermont but dropped out after one semester.
He and Matt Damon won Oscars for co-writing the screenplay for Good Will Hunting, which told the story of a math genius working as a janitor at MIT. The film was shot in Toronto.
Brown University conferred more than 2,400 degrees Sunday.
