Fatal collision shuts down CTrain stations in downtown Calgary

CTrain stations in downtown Calgary were shut down on Monday afternoon after a pedestrian died after being hit by a train.

Police said a man fell between the first and second cars of a westbound train at 3:20 p.m. while standing at the 7th Street S.W. CTrain station.

The man was dragged between the cars when the train started moving, according to police.

Police said the 32-year-old man succumbed to his injuries in hospital later Monday afternoon.

The southbound and eastbound lanes near the 7 Street S.W. station reopened later in the day.

The north and west lines were expected to be closed for an additional two hours, police said shortly after 5 p.m.

In a news release, police said speed was not a factor in the collision and it was not known whether drugs or alcohol played a part.
