Gleichen murder victim trying to protect girlfriend when stabbed

CALGARY – Two women are facing charges in the death of a 26-year-old man in Gleichen.

Tak Tai Lawrence Leung of Chilliwack, B.C. was stabbed during a fight last Saturday, at a home he was visiting.

He was airlifted to hospital but died before arriving.

RCMP say he was trying to protect his 20-year-old girlfriend, who was also stabbed. She has been treated for her injuries and released from hospital.

“I know there was some indication this might have been a luring incident, that’s not the case here,” says S/Sgt. Ben Scott from Calgary RCMP. “They met on an online dating site, they were known to each other prior to this incident and Mr. Leung was simply coming out to spend the long weekend with his girlfriend.”

Officials say Leung has no criminal record and isn’t known to police, and the incident isn’t believed to be gang or drug-related.

RCMP have charged 18-year-old Kristy Noel Redgun and 20-year-old Allison Rose Oldwoman of Siksika with first-degree murder.

The hamlet of Gleichen is located about 90 km east of Calgary, next to the Siksika Nation.
