An 18-year-old Kelowna man has died in a popular cliff jumping area at the southeast end of Skaha Lake near Penticton, B.C. over the weekend.
At about 4 p.m. Friday, the man leaped from a point 110 feet above the lake surface. He did not resurface.
Officers from Penticton RCMP, with support from Penticton and Okanagan Search and Rescue and RCMP Air Service, searched the area.

Just after 7 a.m. Saturday, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team located the man’s body.
Okanagan Falls volunteer fire department chief Rob Oliver said members initially responded with its rescue watercraft but did not locate the subject.
Oliver said the popular cliff jumping spot has been the scene of numerous fatalities over the years and a plaque at the site discourages people from jumping.

“It’s unfortunate but it’s hot, people want to jump off there and they think they are going to be OK,” he said.
Oliver added that the tragic end to the young man’s life was caught on camera.
“One of the worst parts is his girlfriend had it all on video, she’s got to relive that all the time now,” he said.
The BC Coroners Service is now investigating.
No further information is available and the man will not be identified.
