CALGARY – You may as well keep your kayak in the garage, because officials have closed Glenmore Reservoir amid forecasts of heavy rainfall.
The City of Calgary announced on Wednesday morning that no recreational activity will be allowed on the waterway until further notice.
Officials say water levels in the reservoir will be dropped to accommodate heavy rainfall anticipated over the next few days, and prevent flooding.
The rain will create heavy water flow from the Elbow River, making the Reservoir too unsafe to use. Even the City of Calgary Boat Patrol will be unable to head out on the waterway, even to help those in danger.
The Glenmore Reservoir has three main uses – to supply drinking water to Calgarians, provide flood control and downstream management, and recreational use for non-motorized boating.
