According to the Calgary Police Service (CPS), a man was shot just after 9 p.m. and then ran into the theatre entrance of Chinook Centre asking for help.

CPS said they believe the man may have been targeted by four males in a red Honda Civic along 5 Street S.W. The road runs parallel to the back of the mall.

Officials do not believe the alleged shooting was random.

The shooting victim was taken to hospital in non-life threatening condition.

“People don’t need to be concerned going about their daily lives and being in danger. But, of course, as we say, there has been a couple of them that have happened — none random — but that have happened at times where it could have put the public in danger and that’s a huge concern for us.”

Officers said there have been 55 shootings in Calgary from Jan. 1 to Aug. 12, 2019.

During the same period last year there were 26 shootings.

In 2017, there were also 55 at this time.
