UPDATED: Eagle Bluff wildfire more than doubles in size, evacuation alert expanded

The Eagle Bluff wildfire burning north of Oliver, B.C., was estimated at 600 hectares on Tuesday night and is expected to get bigger.

As a result, the Osoyoos Indian Band issued an evacuation alert for properties in the Senkulmen Business Park.

The following properties are now under an evacuation alert:

Meanwhile, the evacuation alert that was issued Monday by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen covering 206 properties remains in effect.

BC Wildfire Service said the blaze continues to grow because of extreme conditions and steep and rocky terrain, which makes some areas unsafe for crews and heavy equipment.

The fire is expected to grow upslope away from communities.

“Growth will bring the fire into more workable and safe terrain for resources on-site,” B.C. Wildfire Service said.

There are currently 100 personnel, several helicopters and water tankers responding to the blaze.

The RDOS said people under an evacuation alert should pack essential items, prepare to take any pets and move livestock to a safe area if possible.
