TORONTO – Actor Christoph Waltz was rushed off the set of a live TV show in Cannes on Friday after a man in the crowd opened fire.
Waltz, star of films like Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained, was appearing on Le Grand Journal, a nightly program that broadcasts from an outdoor location during the Cannes Film Festival. He is a member of this year’s jury.
After the shots were fired, members of the audience either fled or got down on the ground. Security guards rushed onto the stage and took Waltz to safety.
Police apprehended a man who they said had fired two blanks. No one was injured in the incident and the show resumed.
