1 dead after shooting at Markham restaurant

A man is dead and a woman in critical condition after a shooting in Markham. Police say they were called to 5460 Highway 7 near Markham Rd at 11:00pm Thursday night. Police say they are looking for a motorcycle that witnesses saw fleeing the area at a high speed after the shooting. – Aug 2, 2019

Police are investigating after one person was fatally shot and another was sent to hospital in Markham Thursday night.

York Regional Police were called to a restaurant at 5460 Highway 7 East, in the area of McCowan Road and Highway 7 East, just after 11 p.m. and located two adults with gunshot wounds.

Police said one person was pronounced on scene and one was rushed to a trauma centre with serious injuries.

Duke Pyun, a man that has worked in the area for 12 years, said he has never seen anything like this.

“This area is very peaceful, very quiet,” said Pyun.

A car dealership beside the restaurant was also struck with a bullet.

There’s no word yet on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Police said witnesses reported seeing a motorcycle fleeing the scene at a high speed.

Police have not made any arrests at this time.
