Calgary Police Service’s Guns and Gangs Unit is investigating a shooting in the northeast community of Rundle that sent stray bullets into at least two homes on Sunday.
Investigators said they received reports of shots fired just after 9 p.m.
Officers believe people in two vehicles — a black BMW and a black Chrysler 300 — opened fire on each another in the middle of the 4900 block of Rundleview Road N.E.

Police believe the BMW driver was pulled over and speaking to the driver of a third vehicle when the Chrysler 300 drove up and “the shooting occurred.” Both the BMW and the Chrysler 300 sped away.
The Chrysler 300 was reported stolen but was found close to the scene. Police confirmed Monday morning that one vehicle was hit by a stray bullet and was towed to be processed for evidence.
Police are looking for the BMW, which might have body damage — including a missing window — because of the shooting.
Staff Sgt. Greg Cooper of the CPS Guns & Gangs Unit suggested the offenders’ actions seriously jeopardized public safety.
“This shooting happened in the middle of a street, in a busy residential neighbourhood, at a time when citizens were out and about and in their front yards,” he said in a news release.
“At this time, the individuals targeted in the shootings have not come forward and we are relying heavily on information from the public to solve this case.
“We know that people in the community have information that can assist us, and it is crucial for them to speak with our investigators so that we can continue to address these types of incidents.”
Witness account
Rundle resident Tara Materi captured video of the shooting on her doorbell camera.
“My stomach drops. I want to be sick. [This was] too close to home. There [are] people outside — just too close.”
The incident has prompted Materi to rethink the safety of the area.
Another alleged shooting nearby
Residents near the 3400 block of 48 Street N.E. reported a shooting — also involving a black BMW — in the alley just moments before the Rundleview Road N.E. shooting. However, police said they were unable to find evidence of a shooting in that area.
“At this time, no victims or intended targets of this alleged shooting have come forward,” police said in a news release.
No injuries were reported and no arrests had been made as of 4 p.m. on Monday.
Police want people in that area to check their yards, sheds, garages and houses for any evidence of a shooting.
