Cyclist killed after collision with delivery truck in northeast Calgary

A man was killed after being struck by a vehicle while he was cycling in northeast Calgary on Friday, according to police.​. Global News

A cyclist in his 50s died after being hit by a delivery truck near the Calgary International Airport on Friday.

He was biking north on 11 Street N.E. and attempted to cross 53 Avenue N.E. in the west crosswalk at around 4:30 p.m., according to police.

At the same time, a woman in her 30s was driving a delivery truck north on 11 Street, turned left onto 53 Avenue and hit the cyclist.

The man had to be removed from under the truck and was then taken to hopsital in life-threatening condition where he later died.

The Global1 helicopter captured video of several emergency vehicles at the scene and a road was blocked off.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Unit is investigating, but police said alcohol, drugs and speed don’t appear to be factors in the crash. ​
