The body of the second young man who drowned in Golden Ears Provincial Park last Friday has been found, according to Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue.
The body was found by members of the search and rescue helicopter team Wednesday.
The 22 year old, and his 18-year-old friend disappeared while visiting the lower falls of Gold Creek with a group. Two young men were swept away by the strong currents while swimming.
Search and rescue found the body of the 18-year-old shortly after the young men went missing on Friday, but the other body was not recovered until now.
The search was postponed several times because of dangerous conditions in the river.
Recent rapid snow melt due to warm temperatures combined with heavy rain turned the creek into a raging river and water levels were much higher than normal at the time of the incident.
Cpl. Alanna Dunlop said the drownings were incredibly tragic.
“The loss of two young men to drowning affects many people. Today, Ridge Meadows RCMP and Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue have recovered the body of the second drowning victim and the family has been notified,” she said in a statement.
The names of the victims are not being released.
