A dive team is expected to head to  Gold Creek Falls near Maple Ridge Saturday to look for a teenager who is believed to have drowned.

RCMP confirm one body has been recovered from the bottom of the falls in Golden Ears Provincial Park.

Police say two 19-year-old boys were swept away around 2:30 p.m. by strong currents.

One of the boys is from Surrey, and the other is from Delta.

Sgt. Dale Sommerville of the Ridge Meadows RCMP says there was a delay of about half an hour from when the incident happened to when police were called due to the lack of cell phone coverage in the area.

Sommerville says water levels on the stream are way higher than normal due to weather conditions.

“A week of long, hot weather combined with the high snowpack has created a perfect storm.”

The incident happened while the males were swimming in the lower falls with friends.

The identity of the recovered missing teen has not been released.
