Viterra spending $20 million to upgrade four elevators

REGINA – Viterra announced today it will spend more than $20 million to upgrade four grain terminals in Saskatchewan.

The capital upgrades at the elevators in White Star, Humboldt, Waldron and Ituna will increase rail capacity and add significant storage capacity to the White Star and Humboldt locations.

Storage capacity at White Star will increase threefold and will double at the Humboldt elevator.

“This significant reinvestment in our grain handling network demonstrates our ongoing commitment to operational excellence and leadership in our industry,” said Kyle Jeworski, North America president and CEO for Viterra.

“By improving our rail and storage capacities in targeted areas, we are creating further value for our farm customers at the local level, as well as our suppliers and end use customers across North America and beyond.”

Viterra was acquired by Swiss-based Glencore International late last year in a deal worth $6.1 billion.

Glencore said the upgrades at the facilities are consistent with its commitments to increase Viterra’s capital expenditures in Canada.
