SIU investigates crash with serious injuries

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating a serious accident  between a Peel Regional Police cruiser and a car.

According to the SIU the 50 year-old who was driving the car was airlifted to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. A 41 year-old passenger was taken to Brampton Civic Hospital.

There are reports the officer sustained minor injuries.

The collision occurred in the McLaughlin Road and Sandalwood Parkway West area in Brampton at around noon on Tuesday.

The SIU has assigned five investigators, two forensic investigators and a collision re-constructionist to investigate the circumstances surrounding  this accident.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is being asked to call the lead investigator at 416-622-1965 or 1-800-787-8529 extension 1965.

The SIU is called in when a civilian is injured or killed during a situation that involves police officers.
