UPDATE: 38-year-old woman dies in head-on collision northwest of Hamilton on Hwy. 6

A head-on collision on Highway 6 north of Hamilton has killed a Cambridge woman and sent a 19-year-old man to hospital with critical injuries, according to police.

Ontario Provincial Police say they were called to a crash on Highway 6 near Concession 12 East, just outside of Freelton, around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Lori Sellner, 38, has been identified as the driver killed in the collision, OPP say. She was driving a minivan when it crashed into an SUV, according to police.

Sellner was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a Twitter post, Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the SUV, driven by the 19-year-old man, was travelling south on Highway 6 when it “crossed into the centre turn lane and came to a collision right on the edge of the centre turn lane and the northbound lane.”

Lanes in both directions on Highway 6 were closed until 1 a.m. between Concession 11 East and Concession 10 for an investigation.
