Walmart in Kingston evacuated, say police

Kingston police say public was not at risk – Jun 28, 2019

Kingston police have confirmed that the Walmart in Kingston was evacuated Friday morning due to a suspicious package.

Customers and employees were removed from the store, some gathered at the far-end of the parking lot, while others crossed Midland Avenue and waited in the Beer Store parking lot.

Kingston police say they received a call from the store on Friday morning at about 8:45 a.m., and the store was evacuated at 9:06 a.m.

Several people took to social media on Friday speculating that a threat had been made to the store, but Kingston police say there was no threat to public safety.

The big box store reopened just before 10 a.m. Friday morning.
