Drug charges follow Regina house explosion

REGINA –  Three people with burns to their arms and face had to be taken to hospital after an explosion at a Regina home.

Acting deputy fire chief Rollie Gemmell says crews got a call Monday night about the blast at a small house in the Cathedral neighbourhood.

It is alleged that the people inside the house were cooking marijuana oil with butane when the explosion happened The butane gas drifted down into the basement and was ignited by the furnace.

Police say the explosion cracked walls, lifted the roof off the house and knocked the building askew on its foundation.

Gemmell says there was just a bit of smoke left by the time crews arrived.

Daryl Eberhardt, who lives half a block away, says she could feel the explosion when it happened.

“I came out to look and all the fire trucks were coming and there were people … down the street,” she said.

19 year-old Natasha Myria Fritzke of Regina has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana and made her first court appearance on Tuesday morning.
