AMT expands train services to Blainville-St.Jérôme

MONTREAL — As of August 5, users of the Blainville-St. Jérôme commuter train line will have six new weekday departures to choose from.

The Agence métropolitaine de transport will also begin offering weekend service on the line, beginning Aug. 10.

Quebec Transport Minister Sylvain Gaudreault announced the increase in service on Monday.

In addition to serving the North Shore, Blainville-St. Jérôme also has three stops in Laval.

On weekdays, the additional trains mean Blainville-St. Jérôme will have 26 trains per weekday, up from the current 20 trains.

There will be two new departures during morning rush hour, two during afternoon rush hour and two later in the evening, the AMT said.

There will be six Saturday trains and six Sunday trains.

The new schedule is to be made public in June.

In 2011, about 5,900 passengers used the line during morning rush hour. Thanks to improved infrastructure and extra trains, that number is expected to increase to 8,300 passengers, the AMT said.

The Blainville-St. Jérôme line was in service from the late 1800s to 1981.

Temporarily revived in 1997 to discourage car use during road work, it proved so popular that it has remained in service.

In 2011, riders took 2.4 million trips on the line, making it the AMT’s third-busiest. Ridership grew by 11 per cent between 2007 and 2011.
