CALGARY – The Calgary Parking Authority has turned to social media for feedback on their new design for a more simplified parking sign.
Parking signs in downtown Calgary can be cluttered with symbols and numbers, making them challenging to read.
It’s with that in mind that the Calgary Parking Authority is working on developing parking signs that are easier to understand.
They posted a sample sign on Twitter and Facebook to see what people think.
The sign is read from top to bottom, with the most restrictive regulation posted at the top of the sign, and the least restrictive at the bottom.

They say the aim of the sign is to have motorists check: Can I stop here? Can I park here? If I can park here, do I have to pay?
“We received feedback from customers that says when it gets to be four or more signs, they get a bit confused,” explains Troy McLeod from the Calgary Parking Authority. “We’re wanting to be able to simplify the signs and make it easier to read.
“Anything that will make things simpler and easier to understand is the best way.”
Some other Canadian municipalities use this design concept.
