Ten people have been arrested as part of a police investigation last month into the sale and distribution of drugs in the Kawartha Lakes area.
On Thursday, City of Kawartha Lakes Police in Lindsay said the investigation launched on Feb. 12 involved one member from the uniform branch of the service being assigned to the Drug Enforcement Unit on a temporary basis.
As part of the investigation, police said they intercepted individuals “in transit” between alleged drug-trafficking locations.
According to police, search warrants also resulted in the seizure of cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin, fentanyl and prescription medication along with $5,000 in proceeds of crime, a prohibited weapon and a replica handgun.
“Individuals arrested have included members of Toronto area street gangs who have been attending the Kawartha Lakes area solely for the purposes of trafficking controlled substances,” police stated.
Police have yet to name the individuals who face charges including possession of drugs and weapons.
