A Toronto antique shop filled with old movie props is set to close its doors and now nearly half a million dollars worth of antiques are going up for auction on Saturday and Sunday.
Addison’s Inc. has been around since the 1960s when Jim Addison opened a plumbing and salvage warehouse on Gerrard Street.
From then, it evolved into a collection of vintage lighting, old furniture, artifacts and movie props.
“It’s not your average antique store,” said Teresa Addison, Jim’s daughter.
Some of the props have been used in movies and TV shows such as Million Dollar Baby, Murdoch Mysteries, Shape of Water and Handmaid’s Tale.
Jim passed away in 2017 and now his passion for knick-knacks and artifacts will go to auction. The bidding will begin at 10 a.m. each day.
Some of the objects sent to be sold off include the 60s green bathtub from Shape of Water and the dentist chair from the movie Killjoy.
For Jim’s family, Teresa said it’s a “devastating” time but that she’s happy that all of her dad’s things will “live on in other people’s homes and in movies.”
Jeff “The Liquidator” and Don Reinhart from “Storage Wars Canada” are overseeing the online auction as well as the live auction at 41 Wabash Ave. in Toronto.
A preview will take place Friday and the onsite and online auction will take place of the following two days.
