The former head of the Remai Modern art gallery in Saskatoon has bowed out of a new job in Auckland, New Zealand.
Gregory Burke is withdrawing from a new job as director of the Auckland Art Gallery over a harassment allegation stemming from his work at the Remai.
The allegation is being investigated by the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission, which has not been proven in court.
Burke was named CEO of the Mendel in 2013, and became executive director and CEO of Remai Modern in October 2017.
His resignation from Remai Modern took effect on March 15.
Burke said in a statement he doesn’t want the investigation to be a distraction at the new job, so out of respect for the institution he is bowing out.
The Auckland Art Gallery said it accepts his decision and wishes him well.
