Bob Layton: Jobs or justice?

So, we heard from Gerald Butts and it was pretty much what I had expected.

He did his job and accepted responsibility for any miscommunication.

He says during the later SNC-Lavalin discussions they did not know the final decision had been made and still thought it reasonable to offer what he calls “advice.”

Jody Wilson-Raybould used the word “pressure.”

Butts offered “persuasion” as another word.

He says she had never complained about improper pressure until she was moved to another cabinet post.

There was a call for Wilson-Raybould to be recalled to the parliamentary committee to explain some differences in testimony, but the Liberals voted that down.

I wanted to hear her response to this different version of events.

The underlying theme in all of this seems to be that the government felt it had to choose between jobs and justice.

As we look at the communications involved, Butts is saying there’s more than one way of looking at it.

That sounds familiar.

The prime minister once said, “people experience things differently.”
