The University of Regina could be well represented at the 2019 CFL Combine in Toronto that takes place from March 22-24.

Five Regina Rams will participate in the Western Regional Combine in Edmonton on March 11 with the hopes of getting an invite to Toronto.

Linebackers Cole Benkic and Layne Hull, defensive back Cord Delinte and receivers Ryan Schienbein and Kyle Moortgat are all looking to impress.

“Just six days away, the nerves are definitely getting a lot more intense. It’s hard to sleep to sleep at night sometimes because all I do is think about the combine,” Moortgat said.

“But it does make you more excited and I’m ready to go.”

The CFL uses the combine in Toronto as a key tool in evaluating players prior to their 2019 draft that takes place on May 2.

“[The invite] was definitely something I was hoping, but I was on the bubble whether I was going to get it or not and very happy when I got it,” Moortgat said.

“When I saw the news release, I got even more excited.”

And he’s not alone in the excitement.

“It’s something we will all have been working for our entire careers in this league. It’s something we all expected, or hoped for at least,” Schienbein said.

“This is a good opportunity for us to show, not only us, but as a team, that we have some great players and it’s great to be able to represent them.”

It’s an experience all five players happy to share together.

“It’s awesome to be able to go with some of your best friends,” Schienbein said.

“It’s always going to be an honour to go, but being able to do it with guys who mean so much to you, it means a little bit more.”
