A Waterloo man has been arrested after 74 kilograms of cocaine was seized by Canadian border guards at the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor.
Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) said the discovery was made on Feb. 19 in a tractor-trailer returning from the United States.
According to the CBSA, officers originally found six bricks, weighing 8.2 kilograms, concealed within the cab, and a CBSA detector dog found another 49 bricks.
“Cocaine is one of the drugs that organized crime groups commonly try to smuggle into Canada,” said Tamara Allard withe CBSA. “The illegal drug trade brings violence and other associated crimes into our communities and neighbourhoods.”
A 44-year-old man was arrested and is now facing charges.
The CBSA said the driver and the cocaine were transferred into police custody.
