Stone Road Mall says it will be tearing down the former Sears location at the east end of the shopping centre and rebuilding 90,000 square feet of space to accommodate three “large national retailers.”
It’s not known which retailers will set up shop in the new locations.
“To the Guelph community, this is more than just a face lift,” officials said in a post on the mall’s website. “This is the beginning of new opportunities for Guelph’s largest enclosed shopping centre.”
The Sears at Stone Road Mall closed in January 2018 — one of about 200 locations to close across the country.
The mall said the exterior design will showcase a modern and innovative concept, and a new entrance and common area will be designed with LED lighting and “aesthetically pleasing finishes.”
An additional set of public washrooms is also planned for the new wing.

The mall said three separate buildings will also be constructed in the parking lot that will offer new brands and service.
“New landscaping designs will be created to support the new look and pad site operations,” the mall said.
The mall did not confirm specific dates, but said new tenants will begin opening in late 2019 or early 2020.
