Emergency service workers are warning snowmobiles about the dangers of “pressure cracks” on local waterways.
The warnings follow two close calls on the weekend on Sturgeon Lake and on Cameron Lake.

On Saturday evening, a snowmobiler travelling at a high rate of speed hit a pressure crack on Sturgeon Lake near Hickory Beach Road. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Then on Sunday afternoon, a woman was injured when she hit a pressure crack on Cameron Lake, north of the beach in Fenelon Falls.
Cracks in the ice are often caused by changes in temperature as the ice warms and expands.
