Opening date set for Century Mile Racetrack and Casino near Edmonton airport

The new casino and racetrack located near the Edmonton International Airport is set to open on April 1.

Century Casinos made the announcement on its website on Friday.

Century Mile Racetrack and Casino is touted as a prestigious one-mile racetrack for standardbred, thoroughbred and quarter horses. The facility also includes a casino, grandstand, VIP suites, restaurants and bars, as well as off-track betting.

Plans for the new facility were announced in the fall of 2016.

Earlier this year, Northlands bid a fond farewell to its casino after 23 years in operation. The Northlands Casino closed its doors on Jan. 31, and work began to move many of the slot machines to the new casino on the airport land.

The park’s racetrack held its final event in October 2018 after being in operation for 118 years.

The Century Mile facility is scheduled to host the Canadian Derby this August.
